Schafer hiking

Schafer has some great hiking trails which are depicted on a TOPO map. To the north is the Lodge Pole Mountain ridge loop. To the SSE, across the river is the Chair Mountain loop and there are trails adjacent to the river that run upstream and downstream.

Early rafting season the river is high and fast.
Late season the river is low and can be crossed to the south side.
Improved path through the mash area between the ranger station and river.
The old trail through the marsh was really messy. The rafting crews had to carry all their supplies, gear and rafts through this mud slide.
